The LT trim features a premium Pioneer 250-watt speaker system, power seats, steering-wheel audio controls, a remote starter system and a power sunroof as optional equipment. Power windows, door locks, remote keyless entry, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, as well as power mirrors and automatic headlamps round out the generous standards list.Optional equipment on the LS trim includes deep-tinted glass and leather-wrapped steering wheel. The rear seats feature MultiFlex, which allows the seats to move back and forth a total of eight inches for the best rear legroom in the segment.Standard equipment on all trims includes 17-inch painted aluminum wheels, StabiliTrak stability control, traction control, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, six air bags, an anti-theft system, an XM Satellite Radio-ready system, iPod and MP3 capability, Bluetooth and one year of OnStar service. Storage areas are abundant, and include an oversized glovebox, a closed storage bin in the instrument panel above the center stack and a closed storage bin under the center armrest large enough for a laptop computer. Front wheel-drive is the standard drivetrain, but all-wheel drive is available. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard with both engines. This engine is capable of 301 horsepower and an estimated 24 mpg on the highway. All but the LS offers an optional 3.6L V6 engine. A standard 2.4L 4-cylinder makes an impressive 182 horsepower yet delivers 32 mpg on the highway. The Equinox benefits from two available engines that are both powerful and efficient, each making use of variable valve timing and direct injection. The Equinox's rocker panels are integrated into the doors, which means the area over which a passenger must step is very narrow. It has the same platform as the GMC Terrain and shares a general aesthetic with both the Chevy Traverse and the latest Malibu. Power went in all corners via a six-speed automatic transmission fitted as standard. The Chevrolet Equinox is an impressive contender in the mid-size crossover segment. Under the hood, the base engine was the same 2.4-liter powerplant used on other GM products and, as an option, a 3.0-liter V6. The front bucket seats were separated by a tall center console that hosted an armrest with a storage compartment and a couple of cup holders. Inside, the Equinox featured a new dashboard with a binocular instrument cluster that combined curved lines and sharp angles in a new-edge-design styling. The raked-forward C-pillar was still present, like on its predecessor. The new design language also included the one-slat grille that sported the golden bow-tie badge in the middle and a few chromed trims on the lower bumper and the foglights' clusters. Thus, it made a new front fascia that adopted a similar design language to the European Chevrolet Antara/Opel Captiva. The design team had the most challenging task of creating a new bodywork for the Equinox while still relying on the same platform. Moreover, GM used some of its already developed and under-production engines and gearboxes to power it. So, its engineers used the same Theta platform of the previous Equinox generation, strengthened it, and the design team created a new bodywork. Yet, it had to move on with what it had in its stores and parts bin. GM was still in trouble due to the world financial crisis. Chevrolet introduced the second generation of the Equinox high-rider at the 2009 North American International Auto Show.
